Sir Alexander Bustamante (1884-1977) -- Founder of Labour party / First Prime minister of Jamaica following Jamaica Independence in 1962
Norman Washington Manley (1893-1969) -- Founder of the People's National Party (PNP)
Paul Bogle (c.1822-1865) -- Paul Bogle was a Baptist Deacon that led the Morant Bay Rebellion.
George William Gordon (c. 1820-1865) -- Major participant of the Morant Bay Rebellion / Divided his land into small plots and sold at extremely low prices so poor people could be independent by developing and harvesting the land with crops.
Marcus Messiah Garvey (1887-1940) -- Started the internationally known Universal Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A) in Jamaica to fight against social unrest and radical discrimination. At one point he had also started his own political party.
Samuel Sharpe (1801-1832) -- was the man behind the 1831 rebellion that led to the abolition of slavery in 1838. Sharpe was hanged in 1832.
Nanny of the Maroons (c. 1686-1733) -- was known for her guerrilla warfare tactics towards the British. A peace treaty was signed between the Maroons and the British in 1739.
